US Embassy in Georgia Warns its Citizens about Middle East Tension

The US Embassy in Georgia warns its citizens abroad about the heightened tension in the Middle East.

“There is heightened tension in the Middle East that may result in security risks to US citizens abroad. The Embassy has implemented additional security measures as a precaution.  US government personnel are instructed to exercise a higher level of personal security awareness,” reads the statement.

The Embassy calls on US citizens to keep a low profile, are remain aware of their surroundings,  stay alert in locations frequented by tourists,  review personal security plans, and to ensure their travel documents are up to date and easily accessible.

The situation in the Middle East escalated after Iranian general Qasem Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike at Baghdad International Airport on January 3.

US President Donald Trump said the US acted to stop a war by killing Qasem Soleimani, as he was plotting “imminent and serious attacks on American diplomats”.
