ISET: Eric Reinert Book Presentation

On January 15, the International School of Economics at TSU (ISET) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung South Caucasus Office are hosting the presentation of the Georgian translation of Erik Reinert's book How Rich Countries Got Rich and Why Poor Countries Stay Poor. Alongside the translators, the book will be presented by the author himself - Erik Reinert. The book was translated in the frames of the project of the Center for Social Studies and the Caucasian House.

The author, Erik Reinert is one of the leading heterodox economists of our times. Currently a professor of Technology Governance and Development Strategies at the Tallinn University of Technology, he is also an executive chairman of The Other Canon Foundation in Oslo, Norway.

Since its first publication in 2007, How Rich Countries Got Rich and Why Poor Countries Stay Poor has become a bestseller. The book that got its writer the prestigious Myrdal Prize in 2008, combines the history of economic thought and the ideas of development economics and argues against the widespread view that free trade is the only way for the economic development. The book offers its readers an interesting insight into the economic experience of the world and thereby suggests provoking perspectives on how poor countries can overcome poverty in the modern globalized world.

In 2019, with the financial support of the Open Society Georgia Foundation and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, a book by renowned Norwegian economist Erik Reinert ”How Rich Countries Got Rich and Why Poor Countries Stay Poor" was translated and published into the Georgian language.
