MIA: Georgian Citizen Takes Georgian Border Guard Hostage

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has released a statement reporting that a citizen of Georgia with name initials G.I., threatened a Georgian border guard by claiming he would use firearms and a hand grenade, this way forcing him to move to a non-agreed section of the Georgian-Azerbaijani border.

The Ministry has reported that the officers of the Border Police of the MIA of Georgia detained the citizen of Georgia on charges of unlawful purchase, holding and possession of firearms and hostage-taking.

The agency assured society that the incident has been addressed and taken care of and “is now completely over.”

The statement additionally thanked the Azerbaijani side for its active cooperation.

An investigation has been launched under provisions III and IV of Article 236 and sub-provision I, provision II of Article 144 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
