Azerbaijan, Russia, Armenia Georgia’s Principal Trading Partners in Export
Georgia’s topmost trading partners by export were its neighboring countries, Azerbaijan ($498.7 million), Russia ($497.1 million) and Armenia ($412.2 million), according to the 2019 figures specified by the Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).
Geostat provided data that in 2019, the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $12 834.7 million, 2.7% higher year-on-year. The exports matched $3 771.5 million (12.4% higher), while the imports endured at $9 063.2 million (0.8% lower). The negative trade balance was $5.291.8 million in 2019 and its share in external trade turnover comprised of 41.2%. The exports excluding re-exports amounted to $2 352.3 million, 5.7% higher year-on-year.
In 2019, “the exports from Georgia to the EU countries amounted to $825.7 million (13.0% higher compared to 2018) and amounted to 21.9% of total exports, while the imports amounted to USD 2 321.5 million (7.4% lower) with 25.6% in total imports. The external trade turnover of Georgia with the EU countries amounted to $3,147.2 million, showing a 2.8% decrease compared to the corresponding indicator of the previous year. The EU countries accounted for 28.3% of the trade deficit. In 2019 the exports to the CIS countries stood at $2,003.1 million (20.0% higher compared to 2018) and reached 53.1% of total exports, while the imports equaled $2,438.6 million (9.5% lower) with 26.9% in total imports,” Geostat detailed.
