Deputy Head: No Need to Panic over Conoravirus Outbreak in Georgia

Deputy Head of the Georgian National Disease Control Center, Paata Imnadze, claims the panic over the outbreak of coronavirus in Georgia lacks factual basis. 

“As for the risks, we continue to act in accordance with the International Health Regulations. There is no tangible risk mainly because the country has no direct flights to Wuhan (where the virus originated). I believe the panic is exaggerated,” Paata Imnadze said.

A newly identified virus originating in Wuhan, China, can infect both animals and people; it primarily infects and spreads through the respiratory tract. As foreign media reports, an outbreak of the mysterious pneumonia-like virus in China has killed nine people and sickened more than 400 so far. The disease has spread beyond mainland China to Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States.
