2019 Statistics: 5,839 Road Accidents Reported in Georgia, 481 Killed
5,839 road accidents were reported throughout Georgia in 2019, with 481 killed and 7,921 injured, the Georgian Alliance for Safe Roads reports based on the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 2019, the number of those killed in road accidents in Georgia increased by 5% compared to the previous year, while the number of road accidents decreased by 9.5% and the number of injured also decreased by 12%.
Statistics of previous years
The statistics published by the NGO show that in 2015 there were 6432 car accidents reported in Georgia, with 602 killed and 9187 injured.
In 2016, there were 6939 road accidents reported across the country, with 581 killed and 9951 injured.
In 2017, there were 6079 car accidents in Georgia, with 517 dead and 8461 injured.
As of 2018, a total of 6452 car accidents occurred, leaving 459 dead and 9047 injured.
Tbilisi
As for traffic accidents in the capital, the number of those killed in road accidents in Tbilisi increased by 10% in 2019, while the number of road accidents reduced by 8%, and the number of injured also decreased by 11%.
According to statistics provided by the organization, 2,891 road accidents were reported in Tbilisi in 2019, with 100 killed and 3,430 injured.
As for some of the major possible causes of road accidents, the Organization said, these include: violating a single lane, exceeding the established speed of movement and driving under the influence of alcohol.
