SSSG Prevents Ordered Murder of Two in Tbilisi
The Counterterrorism Center of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) and the Ukrainian Security Service have prevented the planned murder of two persons, reportedly brothers, in Tbilisi.
6 Georgians and 1 Ukrainian citizen have been detained in connection with the case.
The detainees were planning to conduct the murder with explosive devices.
More specifically, officers of the Counterterrorism Center of the SSSG and the Ukrainian Security Service, as a result of operative-searching activities, have prevented a crime of an especially severe category, which envisages preparing the premeditated murder of two or more persons in aggravating circumstances and producing, purchasing, storing and selling firearms and explosives.
As a result of simultaneous activities, six citizens of Georgia were detained in Tbilisi and Batumi on the basis of a court ruling, while the Ukrainian citizen was arrested in Kharkiv.
The investigation established that the murder of two Georgian citizens, G.F and D.F in Tbilisi was planned in Ukraine, which was to be implemented using a firearm and a special remote-controlled explosive device. The criminal group had selected the liquidation sites and elaborated a plan for the explosion of the mentioned persons in the vehicle.
Various pieces of evidence have been obtained as part of operative-investigative activities, including audio and video material depicting the preparation of the murder. Firearms, explosives and special remote-controlled explosive devices have been also seized.
"The investigation is underway under Article 18-109 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment for 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment, and article 236, which envisages imprisonment for 6 to 9 years", the State Security Service of Georgia reported.
