3 Persons Detained for Child Trafficking, Tbilisi
Police have arrested three individuals for child trafficking in Tbilisi, reports the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The investigation found that the detainees, identified as M.P., M.G., and V.K., have been systematically exploiting a minor, 15, to provide sexual services to clients. The sister of the minor is among the detainees.
An investigation is in progress on charges of child trafficking under Article 143, part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Human trafficking (otherwise known as modern slavery) involves the use of force or coercion to obtain some type of commercial labor against the will of the person. Today, there are approximately 45.8 million people lured or forced into the trap of modern slavery around the world. This includes about 10 million children. Yet it is difficult to determine exact statistics as so many cases of human trafficking go unnoticed.
