Injured Son of Georgia's First President Wakes Up From Coma

Georgia's first president's son Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, who was severely wounded in dispute in Tbilisi on December 19, has been recovered from the artificial coma by doctors of Istanbul clinic, where he is currently being treated. At this stage, his health condition is satisfactory. The above was reported by his brother Konstantine Gamsakhurdia.

“The good news: a trusted source, based on the information of Istanbul clinic doctor, has just told me that Tsotne woke up. The doctor describes his condition as 'normal.' However, he is not able to speak yet because of the breathing machine," Konstantine Gamsakhurdia wrote on Facebook.

Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was badly wounded on December 19, 2019, near his home in Tbilisi. He was transferred to Khechinashvili's clinic. After several days of treatment, he was transferred to one of the clinics in Turkey, where he is currently being treated. 

On December 23, police have detained one for the attempted premeditated murder of Gamsakhurdia, and four others for not reporting the crime. 

The investigation established that on December 19, an individual, identified as T.Gh, “inflicted several injuries with a sharp object to Tsotne Gamsakhurdia on the ground of the verbal assault that resulted in confrontation and fled from the crime scene”.

The crime for attempted murder is punishable with 7 to 15 years of custody, while not reporting the crime is punishable with 3 to 7 years of imprisonment.
