Experts to Determine the Cause of Fire in Baghdadi
Law enforcers and rescuers are still working at the site of a fire that killed six people, including a mother and her four children, in the Baghdadi municipality, Georgia's Imereti region, last night.
Reportedly, the woman was pregnant.
Forensic experts are expected to arrive on the spot to determine the cause of the fire.
Neighbors said there was no electricity or gas in the house and the tragic accident was likely caused by a fire in the fireplace.
The father and grandmother of the children survived the fire, as they were outside the house when the accident occurred. They could not save their family members as the wooden house was destroyed in a short period of time.
Reportedly, the family had moved to the abandoned house on Tsereteli Street in Baghdadi just a few days ago, as they were socially vulnerable and had no other place of residence.
It was also reported that the family had been deprived of social assistance, which has yet to be confirmed by the local City Hall. Mayor Archil Goksadze noted that the family had been deprived of social assistance temporarily, for a month, only for verification, and the money was fully transferred to them in December. At the same time, they received financial assistance for multiple children families.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this stage.
The bodies have been taken to the forensic bureau.
