Awards in Hospitality to Be Given to 26 Graduates at Hilton Batumi
On February 7, at noon, an awards ceremony in “Hospitality" is to recognize 26 graduates at Hilton Batumi.
The first graduates of dual vocational training in the hospitality industry will be ceremonially awarded their qualifications. Alongside the students, the providers of the vocational training public vocational colleges: 'Black Sea,' 'Mermisi,' and 'New Wave,' and the training companies 'Tsiskvili Group,' and 'Grilltown,' 'Hilton Batumi,' 'Castello Mare,' 'Old Tbilisi,' 'Sepia,' 'Old Town,' and 'Coliseum' will be represented by officials from Georgia and Germany.
The celebration will start with the opening speeches of Ms Tamar Kitiashvili, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Georgia; Mr. Daniel Haas, Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy; and Mr Tornike Rizhvadze, Head of the Government of the Republic Adjara.
Afterthe official speeches, the documentary film "Dual Vocational Education in Georgia and Germany" will be presented. The screening will be followed by gratitude speeches from Ms. Katja Kammerer, Program Director of the GIZ "Private Sector Development and Technical Vocational Education and Training South Caucasus" (PSDTVET)l; Ms. Nata Kvachantiradze, the Head of Georgian Tourism Association; and Mr Thorsten Weller, the General manager of Hilton Batumi. Then, the graduates of vocational education colleges will share their experiences before the qualifications are awarded.
In the summer of 2019, for the first time in Georgia, the qualification examination of the dual vocational education program "hospitality" was held. This program has been implemented with a dual approach from 2017 in the public colleges 'Black Sea,' 'New Wave,' and 'Mermisi.' The difference between the dual program and others is that 60% of professional learning results are achieved in enterprises/training companies, while the public colleges provide 40% of the learning. The dual vocational program includes confectioner, cook, hotel specialist, and restaurant specialist modules.
The Private Sector Development and Technical Vocational Education and Training South Caucasus (PSD TVET SC) Program is implemented by the responsible Ministries of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia with the support of Deutsche Gesellschaft fürInternationaleZusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, acting on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The program is co-financed by the European Union. The current program phase is scheduled from April 2017 to April 2020. The program aims at improving the conditions for sustainable economic development in selected sectors relevant to employment.
In Georgia, GIZ supports the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport (MoESCS) in the development of 17 dual vocational training programs in the sectors of wine, tourism, ICT, transport, and logistics and construction. Currently, 60 companies and several Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) are involved in training programs. Other programs in the ICT, transport and logistics and construction sectors were developed. In the year 2020 new companies and new programs will supplement the Georgian dual training system and provide significant economic imputes.
