Kelly Degnan: Georgia Uses Very Effective Measures against Coronavirus

Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs Ekaterine Tikaradze held a meeting with the newly appointed US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan.

The press service of the Ministry reports that the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Georgia was interested in the issues of health and labor security and discussed the ongoing reforms in this regard.

At the meeting, Amb. Degnan also highlighted the situation regarding the new coronavirus, noting that Georgia is effectively dealing with the chaallenges in this regard.

The conversation also touched on the hepatitis C elimination program. The Ambassador noted that Georgia has great potential to become the first country to eliminate hepatitis C. She also spoke about the importance of the Lugar Laboratory.

“We had a very important meeting with the Minister. We cooperate in the health, labor and social fields. We discussed issues related to coronavirus. Georgia uses very effective measures to respond to the virus. I am pleased that there has not been a single case of coronavirus in the country. The prevention system is very good, which guarantees the protection of citizens. We discussed ongoing healthcare reforms that are somehow similar to those implemented in the United States. We also talked about other important initiatives that the Ministry is implementing, including in the area of labor safety and rights. The purpose of these changes is to balance the interests of both employees and businesses,” said the newly appointed US Ambassador to Georgia.

The meeting was attended by First Deputy Minister of Health Tamar Gabunia and Deputy Minister Tamila Barkalaya.
