Coronavirus: Death Toll Surpasses 1,800
On Tuesday morning, an additional 98 fatal cases of the new coronavirus were reported, the overall death toll from the virus reaching 1,873. All but five deaths from the virus have been reported inside mainland China.
The new victims of the coronavirus include Liu Zhiming, director of the Wuchang hospital in Wuhan, the center of the outbreak. Liu’s death might renew the criticism of the Chinese government, that the state is not doing enough to protect the medics.
Overnight, the number of confirmed cases in China increased by 1,886, which brought the global total to over 73,325.
The world’s concern has been growing in the past week over much smaller but increasing outbreaks in Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong.
China's National Health Commission recently reported that since the outbreak began in December, more than 12,500 patients have recovered and checked out of hospital.
