Member of Victorious Georgia Party Found Guilty, Fined GEL 3,000
Guram Chalagashvili, a member of the opposition party 'Victorious Georgia' who was detained on December 12 at the rally in front of Parliament, has been found guilty by the City Court and fined GEL 3,000.
The judge ruled that he was guilty only for disobeying the police.
Other persons detained along with Chalagashvili were also found guilty. The court fined Kakhaber Machitidze 1100 GEL, Giorgi Tevdoradze 2000 GEL, Besik Gazdelian 3000 GEL, Ramaz Bokelavadze 1500 GEL, and Giorgi Robitashvili 1100 GEL.
All were detained by law enforcers in December in the vicinity of Parliament, where demonstrators were protesting the election of judges to the Supreme Court.
The aforementioned persons were arrested under Articles 173 and 166 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages disobedience to the lawful demand of the police and petty hooliganism.
