MIA: Member of Victorious Georgia Arrested for Minor Hooliganism

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has released a statement on the detention of Guram Chalagashvili, a member of the opposition party “Victorious Georgia,” saying that he was arrested for minor hooliganism and disobeying the police.

“Patrol police officers stopped a car in Tbilisi on Kavtaradze Street for verification. The driver's accompanying passenger – G. Ch, born in 1977, expressed aggression towards law enforcers and violated public order. Subsequently, he was detained on charges of minor hooliganism under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Georgia,” the Interior Ministry said.

The opposition political party Victorious Georgia was founded in June 2019 by politician Irakli Okruashvili, who held different posts during the United National Movement (UNM) government. He was arrested on July 25, 2019, on charges of participating in group violence on June 20-21 Rally in front of Parliament and currently is in custody.
