19-year-old Kills His Mother, Grandmother with Axe in Tbilisi

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has detained a 19-year-old boy who killed his mother and grandmother with an axe in Tbilisi.

The Ministry said in the statement that he killed his mother (DoB 1974) and grandmother (DoB 1946) while they were sleeping.

The defendant was arrested on the scene. 

"The investigation is underway under Articles 11 (I) and 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages the intentional murder of two or more family members under aggravating circumstances.

"The crime envisages from 16 to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment," the statement further reads. 

The exact reason behind the murder is unknown at this stage, however, allegedly, the crime occurred on the basis of the conflict with family members in the past.
