Health Minister: No Risk of Widespread Outbreak of Coronavirus in Georgia
"I would like to assure our citizens that there is no risk of a widespread outbreak of the coronavirus in Georgia," Minister of Health Ekaterine Tikaradze said at today's Cabinet meeting.
She added that coronavirus had been timely detected in Georgia, thus the risk of the spreading of the virus has been reduced.
“We continue our coordinated work. We have enough places to quarantine citizens who were in close contact with infected people and those who arrive from high-risk areas in Georgia. We take care that they are healthy. There are several hospitals mobilized in Tbilisi, as well as in Kutaisi and Batumi. I assure our citizens that at this stage there is no risk of a widespread outbreak of the coronavirus in Georgia. We will continue to work twenty-four hours a day,” the Minister said.
She added that 13 patients were taken to a quarantine zone in the Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital.
“13 patients, who are not infected, were brought from Infectious Disease Hospital to the quarantine zone. 10 patients remain in the Hospital, including 5 people (one citizen of Italy and four of Georgia), who came from Italy and 5 (one Georgian and four Azerbaijani citizens), who came from Iran,” she said.
The first case of coronavirus was reported in Georgia yesterday. The infected patient is a Georgian citizen. Reportedly, a 50-year-old man traveled to Iran for a week and entered the country from Azerbaijan. At this stage, his health condition is satisfactory and the patient has been placed in isolation.
