WHO Positively Assesses Georgia's Coronavirus Prevention Efforts
The World Health Organisation representatives gave a positive assessment to Georgia's efforts for preventing the spread of the new coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Denmark Gigi Gigiadze attended the event of the WHO European Regional Office in Copenhagen, where one of the main topics of discussion was the spread of a new type of coronavirus worldwide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia reports that after the event, the Ambassador of Georgia held a meeting with the Director of the Regional Office, Hans Kluge, and the Director of the Emergency Situations Unit, Nedret Emiroglu.
“The sides discussed the issues of cooperation between the World Health Organization and Georgia. The representatives of the organization highly appreciated the efforts of the Georgian side to detect and prevent the early spread of coronavirus in the country. They particularly emphasized the contribution of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health and its head Amiran Gamkrelidze in this process," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
As for the latest data about coronavirus spread in Georgia, the test results of all 23 patients sent to the Lugar Center are negative, Director of the National Center for Disease Control said yesterday.
“23 samples were sent to the Lugar Center from different hospitals - mainly from the Central Infectious Hospital, as well as from Kutaisi and Batumi hospitals, all of which are negative. 6 more samples have been sent to the center and they are now being tested,” he said.
Three cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Georgia so far. Health condition of the infected patients remains stable and satisfactory.
