PM: Coronavirus had Minor Impact on Georgian Economy
"Coronavirus had some minor impacts on the Georgian economy, primarily on sectors directly related to tourism," Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated at the government session today.
He said that coronavirus should have a minimal impact on Georgia's economic growth, and the government should do everything in this regard.
“The Interagency Council against Coronavirus continues its active work. Today we are discussing the impact of the virus on the economy. As you know, international financial institutions are evaluating the impact of this virus on economic growth as "serious," and there are already predictions about slowing global economic growth. Of course, there was some minor impact on the Georgian economy, primarily on those fields directly related to tourism.
"We are well aware that the government should solve this problem. We will use all the available tools, both monetary and fiscal. Although the Georgian economy has acquired serious macroeconomic resilience in the face of global challenges in recent years, we understand that we must act very carefully in this regard and do our utmost to minimize the impact of this virus on our economic growth,” he concluded.
PM added that the Ministry of Economy will meet with representatives of the tourism sector in the coming days.
"We, together with the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank, will do our best to minimize this impact," Gakharia said.
