Amiran Gamkrelidze's Son Nikoloz Tests Positive for the Coronavirus
It has been confirmed that Nikoloz Gamkrelidze, Head of the Supervisory Board at Evex and the son of Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Director of the National Center for Disease Control of Georgia, has tested positive for Covid-2019.
Gamkrelidze took to his Facebook page to report the information. His post reads that he caught the virus through contact with an infected co-worker.
“All the persons who have had contact with the infected employee were in self-isolation. Yesterday was the first time I showed symptoms of the virus and was tested. The result came back positive for the coronavirus. Now, I am being treated in Tbilisi Infections Hospital and I feel good. Luckily, I only had contact with a few people after I was infected. All of them have been identified and notified and they are all self-isolated,” reads the Facebook post.
Gamkrelidze gave three reasons for making the information public, even though as a patient he had the right to confidentiality.
“I decided to make this information public for several reasons: 1. I think sickness is no shame. 2. I do not want this issue to be subject to different interpretations 3. And most importantly, to not become a source of additional panic.
"I am convinced that if we show more solidarity and accept our civic responsibility, we will soon tackle this challenge in our country,” wrote Gamkrelidze.
On Saturday morning, 3 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Georgia, bringing the country’s total to 12.
