First Minor Infected with the Covid-2019 in Georgia

A girl of about 12 years old is one of the eight patients who tested positive for the Covid-2019 yesterday. This was the first case of the coronavirus confirmed in a minor in Georgia.

The information was originally reported by the Head of the Tbilisi Infections Hospital Tengiz Tsertsvadze to the InterPressNews agency on Tuesday. Tsertsvadze said that the child was taken to hospital with the group of people who had been isolating themselves since February 28. Four members of her family also tested positive for the coronavirus on March 10.

Marina Ezugbaia, the medical director of the Tbilisi Infections Hospital, reported on the health condition of the 12-year-old girl on Wednesday morning, saying that her symptoms are mild and light.

“The family traveled together. These 5 patients, who were admitted together, had traveled together with another patient. So this is one and the same source of infection. The child’s condition is light yet. Fortunately, the disease is less impactful among children, and hopefully, Georgia will not be an exception," Ezugbaia said.

8 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Georgia on Tuesday night, bringing the country’s total to 23.
