Clergymen Splash Holy Water on Tbilisi Streets

On March 17, Orthodox clergymen blessed the central streets of Georgia's capital Tbilisi by splashing holy water.

Before the ceremony, a special liturgy was held at Holy Trinity (Sameba) Cathedral in Avlabari district.

Clergymen noted that through this ceremony, they asked God to protect and save the population from the new disease (coronavirus).

They moved from Holy Trinity Cathedral to Republic Square along the central Rustaveli Avenue, splashing holy water on all cars on the way.

"You see how powerless and vulnerable we are against this pandemic, so the Patriarch urged us to pray together," Archbishop Shalva Kekelia stated.

“We see that the country and the whole world are in a difficult situation, we see how the infection is spreading around the world. Therefore, the Church made this decision”, he said.

In addition, the Archbishop thanked the doctors on behalf of the Church for their hard and dedicated work.
