Tbilisi Mayor: Buses and Metro Will Continue to Serve Passengers

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced today that though the mini-bus service will be restricted in Tbilisi to curb the spread of COVID-19, buses and metro will continue to work normally. They will be disinfected on a daily basis.

“As you know, the decision was made today by the Coordination Council pertaining to the restriction of minibus services in Tbilisi as well as Georgia's other regions. Mini-buses are seen as dangerous hubs for the spread of the virus due to their lack of space. With the limited range of services available to the population, fewer people move around the city during the day. This assures me that we will be able to serve the population with the help of other forms of public transport”, said Kaladze.

“As concerns the municipal transport, the public knows that the metro and buses are disinfected on a daily basis and hygiene norms are fully respected. Also, the buses will change some rules of service starting tomorrow. The driver's space will be isolated from the rest of the bus and distance will be protected for the safety of all”, Kaladze added.

Tbilisi Mayor also emphasized the need to address all the relevant facilities to assist minibus drivers who are facing the danger of staying without their minimal income.
