Coronavirus: International Updates
The WHO has declared the coronavirus a pandemic, describing it as the “defining global health crisis of our time,” urging governments of states around the globe to take stronger measures, do more to combat the virus as it has now killed 7 954 people worldwide.
China, the original source of the virus outbreak, has a low rate of new coronavirus cases – 21 new cases and 13 new deaths, as now 68 715 have recovered from the Covid-2019 in the country.
On Tuesday, Italy reported 345 new deaths which pushed the country’s death toll over 2 500. Overnight, the total number of cases in Italy rose to 31,506 from a previous 27,980.
Spain has 191 new deaths from the virus, and 1884 new cases, bringing the country’s total to 11 826.
The European Union has announced a 30-day ban on most non-essential travel into the bloc of the 27 countries.
Iran comes after Italy with its coronavirus cases, 16 169 in total, on Tuesday the state reported 1 178 new cases and 135 new deaths.
The state of California has announced a complete lockdown of the Bay Area, and 37 states have closed public schools in the country, as the US has a total of 6 159 cases, of these 496 are new. The country on Tuesday also announced 16 new deaths.
The EURO 2020 football tournament and the MET Gala are two of the many major events that were postponed amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Georgia has 34 cases of the coronavirus, 1008 people in quarantine, and 64 patients under medical supervision. The first coronavirus patient in the country has now fully recovered.
The coronavirus pandemic has infected 197 702 people worldwide.
