European Union Closes all External Borders for 30 Days

The European Union is closing its borders with all other nations for 30 days.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the planned closings of the borders at a press conference yesterday.

The movement of people within the European Union’s 27 member nations will still be allowed under the restrictions.

People returning to their home country might be asked to isolate themselves for two weeks, possibly away from their families.

The restrictions do not apply to medical staff, medicines or goods.

The travel restrictions are due to start as soon as the individual governments take the necessary internal measures,

The EU includes countries particularly hard hit by COVID-19, including Spain, Italy, France, and Germany.

“The union and its member states will do whatever it takes,” said European Council President Charles Michel, adding that the EU will arrange for the repatriation of citizens of member countries.
