Up to 20 Georgian Citizens Infected with Coronavirus Abroad

Georgian citizens are among those infected with coronavirus in Greece, Italy, Spain and Germany, Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani stated that the data is recorded by the Georgian consulates and embassies.

Reportedly, at this stage, up to 20 Georgian citizens are infected with COVID-19 abroad. The Agency says that all of them have a light form of the coronavirus and they are in self-isolation.

"We have several cases in Greece, Italy, Spain, and Germany. All of these cases are strictly recorded," FM said, adding that the Georgian side is in communication with the Center for Disease Control.

"All of these people that we have registered are in self-isolation because, in many European countries, hospitals recommend patients be treated at home. Therefore, we will mediate between all of them and the Center for Disease Control to provide the infected persons with recommendations of our specialists from Tbilisi”, FM noted.

Due to Coronavirus, the Embassy of Georgia abroad keeps working in a 24/7 schedule.

"A hotline has been activated to support our citizens abroad," the state agency has reported.

A Georgian citizen infected with COVID-19 passed away in Spain, the Government of Georgia announced yesterday.

The 74-year-old woman also had a chronic illness alongside coronavirus.
