Georgian President Thanks WHO for Assisting Population in Abkhazia
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has thanked the World Health Organization for their rapid response and assistance to the population of occupied Abkhazia.
“After a telephone conversation between the President of Georgia and the Director General of the WHO, who discussed the need to protect the population from the occupied territories against the risks of spreading the coronavirus, a WHO delegation arrived in occupied Abkhazia.
"The President thanks the World Health Organization for their rapid response and for providing basic medical care in the fight against coronavirus in occupied Abkhazia," the President's Administration said.
"We stand with our citizens in this common struggle," the Georgian President said.
A delegation of the World Health Organization arrived in occupied Abkhazia yesterday.
The delegation included the head of the WHO office in Georgia Silviu Domente, emergency program coordinator Radu Cojocaru, the expert Abdubuua Marufoev, as well as the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia, Louisa Vinton.
Louise Vinton informed the so-called Foreign Minister of Occupied Abkhazia Daur Kove about the form of support in the fight against coronavirus.
The WHO delegation handed over medical supplies to occupied Abkhazia to fight coronavirus, local media has reported.
"A big thank you to UN Georgia and the WHO Office in Georgia for visiting occupied Abkhazia and bring elementary medical assistance to deal with COVID19. We stand with our citizens in this common struggle," Salome Zurabishvili tweeted.
