Amiran Gamkrelidze's Son Nikoloz in Satisfactory Condition
The head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, says the condition of his coronavirus-infected son, Nikoloz Gamkrelidze, is satisfactory.
"We have not had any serious complications. Of course, Nikoloz had some symptoms. Now, he is undergoing final examination to see what type of observation or monitoring he needs,” Amiran Gamkrelidze said in an interview with Rustavi 2.
Nikoloz Gamkrelidze, Head of the Supervisory Board at Evex and the son of Amiran Gamkrelidze, tested positive for Covid-2019 on March 5. He contracted the virus from a coworker who visited Italy.
Gamkrelidze stressed three reasons for making the information public, even though as a patient he had the right to confidentiality.
“I decided to make this information public for several reasons: I think sickness is no shame; I do not want this issue to be subject to different interpretations and, most importantly, to not become a source of additional panic. I am convinced that if we show more solidarity and accept our civic responsibility, we will soon triumph over the deadly virus in our country,” wrote Gamkrelidze.
Thus far, Georgia has registered 54 cases of the respiratory infection, including 8 patients who have recovered. 3,254 persons are under quarantine and 233 remain in hospitals.
