Disinfection Works to be Carried out in Marneuli and Bolnisi Tomorrow

Disinfection works will be carried out in Marneuli and Bolnisi municipalities tomorrow, Zurab Lipartia, deputy head of the National Food Agency, told reporters.

"The National Food Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture will organize the disinfection process. The main equipment for this work is already coming from western Georgia. Currently, vehicles leaving the municipality are being disinfected on the border, while tomorrow we will start disinfecting the areas visited by the infected woman," he told reporters at the Marneuli checkpoint.

Two municipalities of Georgia's Kvemo Kartli region, Marneuli and Bolnisi, have been put under quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Only those registered in the Marneuli municipality can enter the area and they will not be able to leave the area for two weeks.

The government made the decision to put the two municipalities in lockdown after a middle-aged woman from the Marneuli municipality tested positive for the new coronavirus. Reportedly, the woman, who is in a critical condition and has pneumonia, has been in contact with dozens of people.

The source for the latest COVID-19 infection case confirmed in Marneuli could not be identified, which further aggravates the situation.
