Six Employees of Ministry of Defense Test Positive for COVID-19

Six employees of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia have tested positive for the new coronavirus, the Agency reports in an official statement. They have been in self-isolation since March 21 and the strictest measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus, the Ministry said. 

All direct or indirect contacts related to them are in quarantine and self-isolation in full compliance with the rules.

Eight persons allegedly in contact with them were taken to Gori Military Hospital for further examination.

A source of transmission of the virus has been identified, which, one of the infected servicemen says, is allegedly related to a family member who reentered Georgia from Azerbaijan.

"It is important to note that since March 12, most of the staff have been working remotely under the order of the Minister of Defense, while on March 21, the Defense Forces moved to a barracks.

"We also emphasize that the infected employees have not been in contact with members of other military units. All the infected persons were taken to the Ministry's military hospital," the statement said.
