WHO: Coronavirus Pandemic Far From Over in Asia

World Health Organization representative Tarik Jasarevic has said that the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia is far from over.

He noted that China now faces a new challenge; the prevention of resurgence of new cases.

“China has slowed transmission of the virus and passed one peak in the outbreak. The challenge now is to prevent a resurgence of new cases. This is going to be a long-term battle,” said Jasarevic.

China and South Korea have the biggest number of coronavirus cases in Asia. At the time of writing, China has a total of 81,518 confirmed coronavirus cases while South Korea has reported 9,786 cases so far. Although the spread of the virus has slowed in the two countries, China and South Korea have both delayed key national college entrance exams over growing fears of a second wave of coronavirus cases.

Tuesday’s reports say that 845,526 people have tested positive for the coronavirus; the virus has killed 41,429, while 176,504 have recovered.
The United States has reported the most coronavirus cases, the number now standing at 180,789 while 3,580 have died from the virus. Italy comes second with 105,792 confirmed cases but its death toll is much higher – 12,429.
