Tbilisi Emergency Doctor Tests Positive for COVID-19

An emergency doctor in Tbilisi has tested positive for the coronavirus, Amiran Gogitidze, Head of Planning Quality and Call Management Department at Emergency Situations Coordination and Urgent Assistance Center, said Friday. The doctor became infected through their life-partner.

“The doctor was not infected through a patient. The physician was last on duty on March 31, so the co-workers were exposed to low risk of the virus contagion. However, we made the decision to take up preventive measures. Everyone who has been in contact with the infected doctor has moved to self-isolation and quarantine spaces,” said Gogitidze.  

The infected doctor’s spouse is employed at the National Bank of Georgia. NBG has confirmed having 7 infected employees.

To date, Georgia has confirmed 148 coronavirus cases, 27 of these patients have recovered. 5392 remain in quarantine.
