Georgian Government to Launch Tea Plantation Rehabilitation Program
More than 7 thousand hectares of state-owned tea plantations are scheduled to be rehabilitated, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development has announced.
The government will support small tea processing enterprises through donor organizations by setting up certification programs which are required to export goods to the EU.
In addition, the government will work to promote storage facilities in order to prolong the production season. According to the Minister of Agriculture, 15-20% of the fruit and vegetable production is lost each year due to improper storage.
The program will focus on the mountainous regions and 12 municipalities with the nationwide lowest economic activity.
The program is expected to start next year.
