Tightened Quarantine Imposed in Lentekhi Municipality

The Georgian government has decided to declare tightened quarantine in Lentekhi Municipality in Georgia's western region of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

Lentekhi will be declared a quarantine zone and will go into total lockdown.

The Prime Minister's Press Speaker Irakli Chikovani made the corresponding statement at a briefing at the government administration this evening.

"On the basis of the advice and recommendations of epidemiologists and doctors, we have decided to declare tightened quarantine in Lentekhi, which means that the district will have exactly the same regime as we are currently holding in the Bolnisi and Marneuli municipalities," he said.

A total of 5 cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in Lentekhi. Initially, on April 8, COVID-19 was detected in a 53-year-old man, who had been traveling in the Tsageri and Lentekhi municipalities.

Today, 4 more cases were reported in Lentekhi. One of the infected is a minor.

On March 23, two municipalities of Georgia's Kvemo Kartli region, Marneuli and Bolnisi, were put under quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Amid the cases of domestic transmission and difficult situation in terms of virus spread, the Government of Georgia had to place the two municipalities in lockdown.
