Apple and Google Partner on COVID-19 Contact-Tracing Technology
On Friday, Apple and Google announced they are collaborating to do their part in the COVID-19 combat. “Google and Apple are announcing a joint effort to enable the use of Bluetooth technology to help governments and health agencies reduce the spread of the virus, with user privacy and security central to the design,” reads the statement published by the two leading modern technology companies.
The new app will enable iPhone or Android users to input whether they have tested positive for the coronavirus or not. Through Bluetooth, other smartphone users will be notified. This will make coronavirus tracing easier for society as well as health officials and the government.
Apple and Google said in the statement they will have the tools ready for the developers to assemble by mid-May.
