2020 Clim@ Competition Announces Finalists for Best Green Energy Initiatives
15 finalists with innovative ideas to protect the climate have been selected for the 2020 Clim@ competition from over 200 impressive applications received from 60 countries. As in previous editions of the competition, there is strong representation from the GGF target regions, namely, Southeast Europe, the European Eastern Neighborhood Region, and the Middle East and North Africa.
In addition, almost half of the finalists this year have presented solutions for a more circular economy, alongside a compelling set of applications focused on sustainable energy.
Businesses range from a sustainable leather alternative made from fruit waste, organic plastic substitutes made from tea to replace plastic parts used in the automotive industry, to a digital platform that connects households and businesses in emerging markets with affiliated recyclers.
The 15 successful finalists are: A2P Energy Solution, Beyond Leather Materials, Biodiesel Misr, Bioenergy for Alternative Fuel, Carbominer, CEEFOR, Coldhubs, COLIBA, Ecodudu, Komporize Composites, Live Love Recycle, Lombrisol, Manyfolds, Whole Surplus, and Forest Guard from Georgia's neighboring Armenia.
Due to the circumstances the world finds itself in with COVID-19 and to adhere to global health regulations, the Clim@ competition 2020 will now be held virtually on 02 June 2020. The finalists will pitch their businesses with pre-recorded videos to a panel of 5 jury members, followed by a live Q&A session. An online audience will be invited to view the proceedings.

Clim@ was initiated by the Green for Growth Fund (GGF) in 2018 and is organized by Finance in Motion on behalf of the GGF and sponsored by the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The Clim@ competition targets businesses or projects that have the power to revolutionize current practices and demonstrate strong positive climate impacts. The competition encourages innovative and unique business ideas that are market-ready and can provide novel ways to combat climate change.
Entries have been welcomed under the following themes: renewable energy, energy efficiency/conservation, circular economy solutions, and resource efficiency (waste and water management).
