Church of St.John the Theologian Closes for Quarantine

The Russian Church of St. John the Theologian has been shut down for 20 days, following the hospitalization of a clergyman due to a coronavirus infection. The temple has been disinfected, and its clergy put under mandatory quarantine.

The coronavirus-infected clergyman Giorgi Papava was yesterday taken to the Vakhtang Bochorishvili Clinic in Tbilisi. His sister and niece have also been admitted to the hospital due to suspicious symptoms. Papava claims that he contracted the illness from his 81-year-old grandfather.

Archpriest Andria Jagmaidze said the clergyman attended a service in the Russian Church of St. John the Theologian a few days ago. “The service, which was attended by a clergyman infected with coronavirus, was attended by other clergymen as well," he noted.

Georgia has hitherto registered 296 cases of COVID-19, with 3 deaths and 69 recoveries.
