PM: MIA Should Have Acted More Effectively on Palm Sunday

"I admit sincerely that the state institutions and, first of all, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, should have acted more effectively on Palm Sunday," Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said at a briefing at the Governmental Administration.

He noted that fines for violation of the State of Emergency restrictions are not planned to be tightened, however, enforcement is set to become stricter.

"We plan to tighten the enforcement of restrictions”, Gakharia said.

Despite the imposed restrictions within the State of Emergency, many people gathered on April 12 in Georgian churches to celebrate Palm Sunday. There was no strict response from the Ministry of Internal Affairs or other state institutions.
