Former MIA Employee, Convicted of Abuse of Power in Robakidze’s Case, Released

The former head of the public relations department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Guram Donadze, convicted of abuse of power in Buta Robakidze’s case, was released from prison yesterday following the judge’s acceptance of a plea. 

The Tbilisi City Court found Donadze guilty on charges of exceeding official powers into the high-profile murder case of Amiran (Buta) Robakidze, a 19-year-old who was killed by law-enforcement officers during a special operation in Didube district of Tbilisi in 2004.

In 2018, Donadze was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in prison and was banned from holding office for 2 years and 3 months.
