Georgian President Holds a Phone Conversation with António Guterres

The President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili has held a phone conversation with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres. The Georgian President summed up the conversation in a tweet on Tuesday.

“Great challenges require common innovative responses. Had the chance to discuss with @antonioguterres on international solidarity in response to the crisis, the need for the SG’s appeal for global ceasefire to include steps toward de-escalation, and equitable access to the vaccine,” reads the President’s tweet.

A source has reported that the UN secretary-general congratulated Georgia twice during the call on the country’s effective measures throughout the pandemic. The Georgian President on her end welcomed the UN resolution that was adopted on an “equitable, efficient and timely” access to any future vaccine developed against COVID-19. President Zurabishvili also called on the Secretary General’s appeal to a global ceasefire to include steps toward de-escalation as well, and not just acts to stop the fire.
