Parliament Approves Extension of State of Emergency until May 22

Georgian Parliament today approved the extension of the State of Emergency in the country until May 22. 

Accordingly, the decree which provides certain restrictions during the state of emergency, issued by the President, has also been extended for the same period. 

The initiative was supported with 97 votes for and 10 against.

The voting was held within the emergency sitting in the Parliament today, April 22. 

Yesterday, President Salome Zurabishvili issued a decree on the extension of the State of Emergency and submitted it to the Parliament for approval.

The State of Emergency shall be extended in Georgia with the Parliament’s consent only.

The State of Emergency was initially declared until April 21. It was later decided to extend it until May 10. The decision about farther extension was made by the Georgian government yesterday.
