Village in Imereti Placed under Lockdown amid High Risk of Contagion

Ghvankiti village in Terjola municipality, in Georgia's western Imereti region, has been placed under lockdown and declared a quarantine zone from today.

The representatives of the local government said that the decision was made to prevent the large-scale spread of the coronavirus.

Five checkpoints have been arranged on the spot, which will be monitored by law enforcers. In addition, thermal screening of the local population is underway. 

“Yesterday, 4 more people tested positive for coronavirus. There are a total of 10 infected people in the village,” said Zviad Shalamberidze, Governor of Imereti region. 

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stands at 420.
