Ezugbaia on High Number of New COVID-19 Cases: the Result of Aggressive Testing

25 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Georgia in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's total to 456.

Marina Ezugbaia, the Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, has explained that the high number of new cases is related to the aggressive testing conducted yesterday, on April 24.

"Yesterday was a day when a thorough study was conducted in the country. The high number of new coronavirus cases was the result of aggressive testing plus the research of all contacts from the Bolnisi municipality. A significant number of studies were conducted simultaneously over the previous days, and these 25 new confirmed cases are the result of this total data. In the coming days, less aggressive research will be conducted and we hope that there will not be such a high number of new cases,” Ezugbaia said.

To date, 456 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the country, while 132 patients have recovered and 5 have died.

The above means that there are 319 active cases in Georgia, i.e. people who have been diagnosed with the virus and are currently being treated.

4949 people are being kept in a 14-day mandatory quarantine and 555 are under observation in hospitals.
