Coronavirus: Worldwide Death Toll Surpass 200,000

The coronavirus death toll worldwide surpassed 200,000 on Saturday, worldometers data shows. 

203,289 are stated to have died of the illness globally. The same statistics show that 2,921,439 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, while the number of recovered stands at 836,978.

The United States is first in both the number of infected persons and victims, with 9,860,896 cases of COVID-19 and 54,265 deaths.

The US is followed by Italy with 26,384 deaths, Spain with 22,902 deaths and France, where the virus has killed 22,614 people.

The UK's Department of Health announced Saturday that there, more than 20,000 people had now died from coronavirus in hospitals. British Home Secretary Priti Patel described the figure as a "tragic and terrible milestone" and said, "the entire nation is grieving".

In Georgia, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases stands at 456, while 139 patients have recovered and 6 have died.

4904 people are being kept in a 14-day mandatory quarantine and 579 are under observation in hospitals.
