MIA, US Central Criminal Department Seize 40 kg of Heroin in Joint Operation
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the US Central Criminal Department have seized 40 kg of heroin as a result of a special operation in Batumi, a town in the seaside Adjara region, Mamuka Chelidze, Head of the Criminal Police Department, stated on Sunday.
He noted that the special operation was successful, while a particularly large amount of drugs have been seized, the cost of which on the black market is over 2 million USD.
Two Bulgarian citizens have been detained for the purchase and possession of 40kg of heroin.
The investigation established that two citizens of the Republic of Bulgaria smuggled a large amount of drugs into Georgia last month, with the intention of selling them in Europe.
"Appropriate investigative actions are underway to identify other persons involved in the case," the Head of the Criminal Police Department added.
