Kintsvisi Monastery Clergyman Charged with Attempted Murder

A clergyman of the Kintsvisi Fathers' Monastery in eastern Georgia has been charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms, based on evidence gathered by an investigation.

"The investigation established that on April 20, 2020, in the vicinity of the village of Rieti, Gori Municipality, a clergyman identified as K.K. fired several shots from an illegally purchased firearm in the direction of S.J., who was driving a car. The victim managed to escape. Law enforcers arrested K.K. on April 27, 2020”, reads the statement of the Prosecutor's Office.

If the crime is confirmed, the accused priest faces 7 to 15 years in prison.

The confrontation between the clergy took place on April 20. 

The investigation was launched under Articles 109 and 236 of the Criminal Code, which envisages attempted premeditated murder and illegal purchase, possession, transportation or sale of firearms or explosive devices.
