Court Orders Pre-trial Detention for Kintsvisi Monastery Clergyman
On Wednesday, the Gori District Court ordered pre-trial detention for the clergyman of the Kintsvisi Fathers’ Monastery.
It is reported that the clergyman is exercising his right to remain silent.
The clergyman of the Kintsvisi Fathers' Monastery in eastern Georgia was charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms on Tuesday, based on evidence gathered by an investigation.
The confrontation took place on April 20.
"The investigation established that on April 20, 2020, in the vicinity of the village of Rieti, Gori Municipality, a clergyman identified as K.K. fired several shots from an illegally purchased firearm in the direction of S.J., who was driving a car. The victim managed to escape. Law enforcers arrested K.K. on April 27, 2020”, reads the statement of the Prosecutor's Office.
The detainee, if convicted faces 7 to 15 years in prison.
