Ivanishvili among Businessmen Who Offered Largest Donations to Fight COVID-19

American weekly newspaper Barron's has published an article, titled 'Business Executives Offer Large Donations to Fight COVID-19,' written by Crystal Ye and Lucy Cohen Blatter, highlighting the donations and contributions of those who financially assisted their countries in these challenging times.

"Some of the biggest names in the world of business have donated to fund research, pay for personal protective equipment for hospitals, and help victims suffering during the Covid-19 crisis. Here is a list of who’s donated," reads the article, also praising the contribution of Georgian politician and billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Chairman of ruling party 'Georgian Dream,' who has donated 100 million GEL to the special fund created to fight against the spread of the new coronavirus.

Ivanishvili is the second in Barron's list, after Fast-fashion pioneer Amancio Ortega, who has spent nearly €63 million ($68 million) on medical equipment for the Spanish Health System, including 1,450 ventilators, 3 million filter masks and 1 million testing kits.

"Bidzina Ivanishvili, billionaire and the ex-prime minister of Georgia, has donated GEL 100 million ($32 million) to the StopCoV Fund. The StopCov Fund was created by the Georgian government to accumulate funds to help fight the coronavirus pandemic," reads the publication.

Georgian philanthropist is followed by Russian billionaire Vladimir Potanin ($142 million), Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris, who is donating 1 million FDA-approved ASTM Level 1 Procedure Face Masks to healthcare workers and first responders working on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis across the United States, Mary Oppenheimer, the daughter of the late mining magnate Harry Oppenheimer, and her daughters, who will be donating ZAR1 billion ($52 million) to a solidarity fund aimed at fighting the coronavirus.

Recently, two other leading international editions, The Telegraph and Daily Express have also praised Ivanishvili's donation in their articles.
