Heavy Hail Destroys 70% of Harvest in Kakheti

Heavy rain and hail hit several municipalities in Georgia’s Kakheti and Imereti regions yesterday.

In Kakheti, the hail lasted for 20 minutes and damaged over 70% of the harvest in the municipalities of Sighnaghi and Sagarejo. 130 anti-hail rockets were launched into the sky, reducing the effects of the bad weather.

Every year, a large portion of the agricultural sector in Kakheti is damaged beyond repair due to heavy hail and rain, leaving farmers with no crops.

Heavy rain also affected the municipality of Sachkhere in Imereti, destroying 30% of the agricultural land plots and vineyards, and flooding streets.

Sachkhere Mayor Beniamine Palavandishvili said the overall damage due to bad weather exceeds GEL 1 million.
