Georgian Lari Symbol Available in Microsoft Windows

The Georgian national currency symbol is now available on Microsoft operating systems, several months after registering it in Unicode.

The Georgian Microsoft office actively supported the Georgian lari symbol (GEL) which can now be used in Microsoft Windows 7, 8 and 10.

The symbol’s code is 20BE in Unicode, and can be typed with the combination Shift + L while using the Georgian keyboard (KA or ქარ).

The new Georgian lari symbol was introduced in 2014. Its concept is based on the letter L, ლ in the Georgian alphabet Mkhedruli.

The symbol is a stylized image of the letter with two parallel lines crossing one headed L resulting in three headed L (ლ).

An update is available for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
